Mid July Musings

?I am surprised at the number of people who have asked me about my intention to start a lawn company. You may recall that I thought the “James Lawn Firm” would be the perfect name for such an endeavor. It has been almost two months since I made public the idea of starting such a business. I am no closer today then I was the day that it was first printed. In fact, other than talking about it, I have done nothing in an attempt to start such a business.
?I have found a very good service for my lawn at home, but they don’t do work downtown. My lawn at the office is in complete disarray. They finished painting the office two weeks ago and no one has touched the lawn in a month.
The act of driving a large lift all over my office lawn has all but destroyed what lawn was left. You may recall that I actually filed suit against a lawn service that had incorrectly installed sod in the back yard because it did not look right. Today I can only dream of the yard I had last year.
It is now my intention to patio the entire back yard and to re-sod the front once the new columns are installed on the front of the office after the first of the month. I figure that by sometime in mid fall the yard will be in tip top shape for the winter hibernation. We can start again in the spring trying to make it perfect.
The problems I am having with my lawn are dwarfed by the problems the Gulf Coast is having with the oil spill. While it appears that the bulk of the flow directly into the ocean has been stopped, there is no guarantee that the problem is fixed. Ultimately, stopping the oil flow may be nothing compared to what it will take to clean up the oil that is left floating in the gulf. This may be an opportune time to start looking for some vacation property down on the Redneck Riviera, on the other hand, there is nothing better than the lakes of Arkansas this time of year and they are a lot closer.
I am home alone this week with William. The kids are at camp and Patti is spending some time with friends down in South Padre. That leaves me, William, and the dog. I have found that the three of us are pretty messy when you get right down to it.
While it seems that we eat all of our meals out, it has been hard to keep up with the dishes and that is nothing compared to the pile of laundry that is in a basket in front of the dryer. You see I am pretty good at washing and drying clothes, just not very good at the folding part. Patti has complained about that in past, but it was not until this week that I have come to realize how important her folding is to the process of washing clothes. By completing, I mean getting them onto hangers and into drawers.
Patti will be home today, so by the time you read this I will have all the clothes folded, even if they all have to be re-washed.
I have to admit that I enjoyed my month off, but it is good to be back. Next week I will introduce my entry into the Twitter and Facebook worlds so all of my fans can keep up with my daily musings and cryptic view of the world.
That, of course, is my plan. Plans don’t always work out, but without them where would we be? Plan or not, it is good to be back where I belong: Way up in the CHEAP SEATS!
